    Deep Fried Monte Cristo Sandwiches
There are a few recipes of this here. I read online that the original had ham and cheese and was fried in an egg wash. But, the first Monte Cristo I ever had was like this so I made this one. I hope this re-heats OK as I definitely could not eat it all! Didn't do the sugar and jam. I figured this has a lot of calories in it without it.
First time I ever started a fire on my gas stove. The oil splashed over the side of the pan as this was so thick! It went out when I turned off the gas. I guess I needed to clean my stovetop anyway. :-P

Oh my gosh, that looks fabulous, Frankie! I've never had a Monte Cristo sandwich, but it looks and sounds delicious! Hmmm, you started a fire on the stovetop. Is that you in your avatar photo? ;)

It looks fantastic, Frankie! As usual, a beautiful pic as well! I have never had one either Bakerme. I will have to try one, one day. I would have skipped the sugar and jam just b/c to me it just seems weird.

It seems the sugar is used only on the deep fried version. I think its kinda weird, too.
Yeah, that was me today, Bakerme! Although the flame went out when I turned out the gas. I cleaned everything all up but now that burner won't light, dang it. I'll have to call someone I guess. I have a feeling this is going to be one expensive sandwich! :)

Frankie, good thing you liked the sandwich. Can you imagine paying for a repair caused by something you didn't even like?! That would really add insult to injury!

Whew! It started up tonight when I went to make dinner. I guess it just needed to dry out or something.
    Yipes! Crisis averted!! :-D

I have made a baked monte cristo A Full Monte Cristo but never fried. My FIL loves the things and swears the powdered sugar is what makes the sandwich, but I can't wrap my head around it either lol :) This looks so good, I'd love it this way!

Happy that the burner started to work for you. The recipe does look interesting for sure. Like other never had one deep fried and with icing sugar on top. Funny how she has on the list French Toast.

There are a couple of other baked ones here as well. Of course, Keni's recipe feeds 146 people. As usual. :)
