Ingredients

1 egg shopping list

How to make it

Fry the bread on both sides for few minutes
take a glass or cookie cutter and pierce toast so you make a round hole in the middle of the toast
remove circle of toast you just made
crack the egg in the hole while its fryng
flip if desired
your done

My Mom made these for us too, and now I make them for my son, we call them 'Special Eggs or Eggs in a Basket', Mom would cut the cooked egg and bread into 1/8ths, with the cut out fried circle under the egg becomes little treats to find, I would always leave that til the end, best part! I don't fry my bread ahead of time, I put a lid on to help the egg to cook more evenly.

I love this easy dish. I didn't know about it at all till I saw it being made in the movie Moonstruck and it drove me crazy to find out what it was. Great pics.

I love these! Dad used to make them for us when we were kids, but he called them a 'toad in the hole', but they have many names - one of my co-workers calls this an 'egg in a nest'.
