Ingredients
  • 1 round steak (approximately 1 1/2 pounds), see note
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 (14-1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, cut into strips
  • 1 medium bell pepper, cut into strips

Directions
  1. Cut steak into serving-size pieces. Season, to taste, with garlic powder and salt and pepper. Dust meat with flour. In heavy skillet, brown both sides of meat in vegetable oil. Transfer to Dutch oven.
  2. Combine garlic, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, and 1 tomato-can measure of water. Pour over steak and simmer until meat is tender. Season, to taste, with additional salt and pepper.
  3. Hint: Cook this in a slow-cooker on low for a most fabulous dinner.
  4. Note: to ensure tenderness, it is necessary to have the butcher run the round steak through a cuber.

Yep, Just like Mom used to make. She just beat the flour and seasoning into the steak with her meat mallet. I still have it and it does a wonderfull job.

I love swiss steak! This is a good recipe.

Hubby's favorite, this is bookmarked! Thanks Henrie!

I have made this from Paula and it is good!

Love this on Sunday in the slow cooker. My mother in Law would pound in the flour and seasonings instead of have the butcher run it through the cuber.

Brings back memories for sure! got my 5

Sounds good, we eat alot of Swiss Steak because it's so easy for me. One variation I like is to use a jar of salsa instead of a can of tomatoes.
