Rye Snacks

This is a great appetizer. People who don't like rye bread like it. Those who don't like black olives like it. I have never taken it somewhere new that I haven't been asked for the recipe. It's been a standard for my family and friends for over 30 years now.
Ingredients
- 2 C. Shredded sharp cheddar cheese (Cracker Barrel suggested) shopping list
- 1 small onion, grated or finely chopped. shopping list
- 1/2-3/4 Cup mayonnaise (Helmann's suggested, do not use Miracle Whip) shopping list
- 1 can sliced black olives shopping list
- 1 lb. bacon shopping list
- 1 loaf cocktail rye bread shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350
- With scissors, cut across entire package of bacon, into 1 inch pieces
- Fry until crisp and place on paper towels to drain
- Do not use bacon bits, it's just not the same
- Mix cheese, onion, mayo and olives
- Spread cheese mixture on cocktail rye bread, place on cookie sheet
- Sprinkle each slice with bacon pieces
- Bake on middle rack for 15-20 minutes
- Serve while hot, they won't last long!
