- 250g Pkt stoned dates, chopped shopping list
- 250 ml boiling water shopping list
- 5 ml bicarbonate of soda shopping list
- 125 g butter or margarine, softened shopping list
- 250 ml sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs, beaten shopping list
- 2 ml salt shopping list
- 5 ml baking powder shopping list
- 375 ml flour sifted shopping list
- 100ml chopped pecan nuts (optional) shopping list
- syrup shopping list
- 500 ml sugar shopping list
- 10 ml butter or margarine shopping list
- 250 ml water shopping list
- 200 ml brandy shopping list
- 5 ml vanilla shopping list
How to make it
- Tart
- Soak chopped dates in boiling water with bicarbonate of soda until soft, about 15 minutes.
- Cream together butter and sugar until pale and fluffy, beat in eggs.
- Sift together dry ingredients.
- Fold into creamed mixture alternately with date mixture. Add nuts. Turn into two greased and floured pie plates.
- Bake at 180o C for about 20 -25 minutes.
- Syrup
- Boil together sugar, butter and water to form a thickish syrup.
- Remove from heat, add brandy and vanilla.
- Remove tarts from oven, prick all over with a toothpick, pour syrup over warm tarts.
- Serve warm or cold with whipped cream
