How to make it

  • The day before...or early the same day, soak the poppy seeds in the milk for 5 to 6 hours.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together.
  • Add egg yolks, one at a time. Mix well after each addition.
  • Add the vanilla and poppy seed mixture.
  • In another bowl, combine the dry ingredients together.
  • Add to the first mixture of liquid ingredients.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff.
  • Fold into the first mixture.
  • Pour into 2 greased and floured loaf pans (9X13") or one Bundt pan.
  • Bake in a 325 to 350 degree F. oven for approximately 1 hour.
  • Cool completely.

    My daughter made this today I and had it warm w/butter and tried it with orange blossom honey and tea. Heaven in a mouthful. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too!

    Haven't had a good poppyseed cake in I don't know how long. Warm with butter, heaven in a mouthful. Definitely have got to try this. Great post.
