Bettys Meat Loaf

This is the first thing I learned to cook when I was a girl. My mother worked all day and I had to help out. Mama bought a "Betty Crocker's Cook Book for Boys and Girls" for me and this recipe became a favorite. Read more I'm now a grandma and I'm still making this recipe, albeit with garlic and some chopped celery! Leftovers make the BEST sandwiches. See less
Ingredients
- 3 slices soft bread, broken in pieces shopping list
- 1 cup of milk shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1/4 cup minced onion shopping list
- 1 tblsp. worcestershire sauce shopping list
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef or meat loaf mixture shopping list
- Optional: shopping list
- 1/2 cup celery chopped into small pieces shopping list
- As much garlic as you like! shopping list
- 1/4 cup ketchup shopping list
- 3 hard boiled eggs, shucked shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oven to 350 degrees
- Mix the first four ingredients together. Also add whatever else you like in your meatloaf.
- Stir in the hamburger.
- Form into a loaf and placee in a 9-inch loaf pan
- Bake 1 hour.
- Tuckaway Meatloaf
- When forming the loaf, tuck in 3 hard-cooked eggs along the center.
