Amazing Turkey Ala King

An adaption from All recipes for the easiest and best Ala- King , I ever had. Having left over turkey,I made some Ala- King for a dinner party and also for home meals. The second time I added some leftover cooked broccoli and cooked pale green artichoke pasta, plus some sherry to the recipe-oh my goodness. Read more Comfort food at it's best. One can fill baked puff pastry shells with the mixture for a luncheon menu as well. Not for the diet conscious- but one could try some olive oil instead of butter or fat free half and half for the cream sauce. This is amazingly delicious, enjoy! And why not use chicken too! See less
Ingredients
- 1/2 stick butter shopping list
- 2 packages ( 10 oz each ) mushrooms sliced shopping list
- 1/2 cup flour shopping list
- 6 cups cooked cut up turkey ( combos of white and dark meat or as desired ) OR chicken shopping list
- 3 cups chicken or turkey broth shopping list
- 2-3 cups heavy cream as needed shopping list
- 2 to 3 cups frozen green peas thawed shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
- splashes of sherry or port wine to taste shopping list
- optional: add some cooked chopped broccoli, cooked pasta varieties shopping list
How to make it
- Melt butter in a large heavy duty pot
- Add mushrooms and cook and stir till mushrooms tender
- Add flour and cook and stir into a paste,
- Add chicken broth and cook and whisk till a thickened sauce over medium high heat
- Add the turkey and peas and mix well.
- Add the cream and mix well
- Simmer until thickened as desired
- salt and pepper to taste
- Add some sherry wine as desired
- Optional: Add some cooked pasta and cooked broccoli or simply serve over cooked rice or noodles as desired.
- Note: recipe may be halved
