Paula Deen's Red Velvet Cake

- 2 cups sugar shopping list
- 2 sticks butter, softened shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 2 tbls. cocoa powder shopping list
- 2 oz. red food coloring shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups cake flour shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda shopping list
- 1 tbls. vinegar shopping list
- frosting shopping list
- 1-8 oz. package cream cheese, softened shopping list
- 1 stick butter, softened shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350
- In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy
- Add eggs one at a time and mix well after each addition
- Mix cocoa and food coloring together and then add to sugar mixture; mix well
- Sift together flour and salt
- Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk
- Blend in vanilla
- In small bowl, combine baking soda and vinegar and add to mixture
- Pour batter into 3 8 inch round greased and floured pans
- Bake 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
- Frosting (for 2 layer cake)
- In mixing bowl cream butter, vanilla and cream cheese until light and fluffy
- Add sugar slowly and mix until well combined.
